A Report of Trustees for Nunda School
District No 2, 1828
In 1828 Henry Jones, a local
cabinetmaker who had, along with Judge Carroll, laid out the streets
of the growing settlement, recorded the official "Report
of the Trustees for 1828."
The report provides an interesting
look at early public education in Nunda. School No 2 was located
on the present day McMaster Property across from the Keshequa
Central School parking lot, and was built in 1826. It was the
first frame school in the Town, and replaced the log school built
three years earlier. (See
the first school meeting in Nunda.)
This report is found in
the Record Book for District No 2. We have tried to recreate the
text as accurately as possible. Nundahistory.org thanks the Bell
Memorial Library for allowing us to photograph the record.
